Introduction

Located within the Charakusa Glacier in Pakistan’s Karakoram range, Drifika Peak is known for testing even experienced climbers. Standing among the more challenging ascents below 6500 meters, it demands high physical endurance and solid mountaineering expertise. The peak was first successfully summited in 1978 by a Japanese expedition led by Akiya Ishimura.

Climbers aiming for the top must be skilled in rope techniques, technical climbing, and adaptable to harsh weather conditions. Drifika features two main faces, south (Nangma Valley) and north (Kharidas Valley), with the southern route being more commonly used due to easier base camp access. Nearby smaller peaks provide ideal opportunities for acclimatization, and despite its challenges, the climb is relatively short and at a moderate altitude.
