Biafo Hisper & Snow Lake Trek

Introduction

The Pakistani Snow Lake-Hispar La Trek passes through a high-altitude glacier basin that is more than 16 kilometers wide. Located at the summit of the Biafo and Hispar glaciers, this spectacular area functions as an ancient ice highway that links the two massive mountain kingdoms of Baltistan in the east and Hunza in the west. With a total length of 120 kilometers, the Biafo-Hispar glacier is the second longest glacier outside of the Polar Regions.

On this walk, you might encounter an isolated and unexplored area of the Karakoram that is never visited by other trekking groups. As a result, there are rarely encounters with other hikers and the trail stays calm. Numerous animals, including as the elusive snow leopard, ibex, Markhor, and Himalayan bears, can be seen in this pristine area. Trekkers and mountaineers consider the Snow Lake region to be among the most difficult yet rewarding places in the Karakoram due to its well-known difficulties and rewards.

At numerous times along the journey, the group and the porters must rope up for protection. The trail crosses multiple tributary glaciers, glacial streams, and moraine ridges covered in loose rocks. However, the breathtaking vistas of the mountains and the charming campgrounds along the route make it an experience that will never be forgotten.
